First off ill try to make this rant as spoiler free as possible but i might go full on spoiler in the comment section and warn me if you dont want to be spoiled. Second this is all IMO, if you liked it thats great and i can most likely see where you are coming from, so  hopefully no one will get to mad at me. third as many of you know i am a big trek fan and nerd, so movies like this really get my rage going(i have been stewing since i saw it on opening night).... anyways i didn't hate the first movie (tho it had some problems) and for the most part the first one was a lot of fun so going into this one i had high hopes. ill start off my rant with the stuff i really liked....

The Good: the cast is great for the most part, i think that zachary quinto (spock) and simon pegg (scotty) were just plain awesome in their roles. pegg really stole the show and i couldn't think of anyone better to play scotty. you could tell he was really really into playing the part and was just fantastic!  the music and score was pretty good this time around and was classy and classic. some of the visuals were really good and a few of the sequences were really fun and inventive. i really like a lot of the fun character interactions as well, and there were some nods to trek nerds that brought a smile to my face.

The Bad: there is a lot of wiz bang action with tons of "just punch them in the face". to me this is not trek, and for the most part this move has 0 life lessons/morals. to me the best trek movies have a message that we all can learn from, in this one it really is shoot first and never ask any questions.
i had to see this in 3d as well(which i am not a fan of) so that meant forking over extra cash for a set of flimsy glasses to shove over my glasses.  Like with most 3d half way through the move i developed a huge headache. plus most of the 3d was either not so good or down right bad. on top of all that for every cool sequence there was 2 were crappy or rushed(some CGI was bad as well). they introduce the new klingons but were pretty wimpy and only in the movie for like 4 mins tops, this was not a proper way to introduce the best aliens in trek! if you are going to trow them in give them the proper time,development and respect (ohhhh and i hate the new facial design) they made the main villain so freaking overpowered it wasn't even funny and really broke my immersion. plus i said the cast was great for the most part but the woman playing uhura cant act her way out of  a paper bag and the actor playing sulu just seemed like he didn't want to be there.

The Ugly: with this movie they kinda tried to re-use the story from one of my favorite moves. so right away the bar was set really really high. the movie had too many villains and didn't flesh out any of them. benedict cumberbatch is a fine actor but they didn't give him much to work with plus most of the time he played his charter like his Sherlock character. i can not accept this at all, if they are going to use that actor/charterer they better damn well do it right (the character is very near and dear to any trek fan) anyways adding in all the villains really took away from his characters development and just wasn't played right. ohhhhhh and their are TONS and TONS of in your face plot holes. now i usually dont bitch about a few plot holes here and there(its trek anyways) but their was soooo freaking many all through the film plus tons of little stuff that just goes against what we know of trek and how trek ships work. on top of all that no one in the crew learns anything and there are no morals to be found.

this is all pretty disconcerting  to me seeing that JJ abrams will be doing the next star wars movie, i am very worried now for both the future of trek and star wars which as a die hard fan of both franchises is very depressing . anyways i am sure some will really love this movie and i see its getting good reviews on RT and metacritic but ill warn you all, this really isn't trek and as fans we deserve way better treatment of both the franchise and beloved characters.
