Jesta Inner Frame WIP by enc86 Jesta Inner Frame WIP by enc86
Over the holidays I have been pretty busy spending time with the family and haven't had too much time to work on my hobby. But here and there I found time to putter on a project. Some will be thinking "hey enc, that's not a diorama base!?" it was just so hard to resist all the fresh plastic sitting my stash and I was really excited to try my hand at a gundam soooo.....

Here is the work so far on my MG 1/100 Jesta. For those that are wondering what this is, it's a model of a giant robot, well so far its  a model of his inner frame. Right now he is a bit naked (will have armor plates built up over this frame work) and as you can see he is highly pose-able and will be tons of fun for me to photograph and play with.

seeing how this is my first fully painted MG I didn't want to go overboard, so i painted the frame flat black and did a bit of quick dry brushing to bring out a few details (tho most will be covered when done, but why not LOL) I plan on painting the rest of him green and dark tan.

i have a bit more done on him and so far this kit has been amazing, fun and without any major screw ups. Anyways wish me luck with the rest of him.

Hey, that's something really cool, man! :) I mean, all your stuff is good but this guy wins the season, haha.
I love the posing ability. And wow, you can move the fingers too? Awesome! Can't wait to see him "dressed" into armor and indeed I wish you luck. :)
Oh, and happy new year! ;]

btw, how did you paint the frame, assemble all then paint or individually ?
Reply
:iconenc86:
enc86 Featured By Owner Jan 1, 2014
a bit of both.

i assembled the sub Assemblys(shoulders, waist, chest ect) and sprayed them individually. some of the tricker moveing parts(legs) i would extend to one extreme, spray, then after drying a bit extend to the other way and spray. so far i got the head and chest done too, and i primed/painted the amor bits individually.

a few areas i thought might be trouble(hip joints, top arm shoulder joints) i masked with tape, so no paint would get on pegs/connecting holes.

i used "krylon dual"flat black for all the inner frame, and did it in two thin coats. he still moves great( and feels right comparded to my un-painted MG's) and so far even without a top coat, i havent seen any paint chipping or scratching.

well, to be honest, my jestta was a rush operation, i dont really like the outcome of it, sure the color code was different than the box art. but all of the joints are too stiff because of the paint, rending it 50% un-posable. there was no priming, paint now come out from every where. that was the first time i paint a MG mobile suit, next time i plan on working individual body parts. Hope fully the color and joints can work together better this time.

ohhh ouch, that sounds like a hard learning experience and exactly what i was worried about when building this. this is my first painted MG and i was quite worried that things wouldn't move or paint would come off. so far he moves great and no paint has scarped off so hopefully i am in the clear. kinda why i didnt go more extremem with this one, i wanted to make sure i could do it before i invested in gundam aftermarket and such.

well at least your looks great dude, and it sounds like you learned a ton for next time.

That's a cool model (he says, after going to look at complete versions on Google Images).  I've been wanting to do a larger scale Japanimation mecha for a while.  Quite like the look of this one.  Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Did you also paint in the 'inner head' clear part around the mono-eye?
Nice job on the Mp-1 parts too, knew you could do it!

thanks a ton dude! you have been inspiring me BIG time and i have been having a blast with him so far!

yea i painted the clear with the frame, then dry brushed details and painted the eye with some chrome paint. next time i will be getting some LEDs.  but on this one i kinda wanted to not get too extreme with things. just wanted to make sure i could handle a MG kit. tell yea tho, i think i am addicted!

thanks dude, they were not too bad to do. kinda blew my mind when i did them, never seen plastic injection like that.  might make him an extra set of hands(older style, that i have extras of) for outside photos and play. i could see these hands loosing a bit or too someday....

The fingers stay relatively tight, but I know Bandai made 1:100 scale builders parts hands and the Gunpla LED will be a great idea for the optics!

good to know, i know that the hands have popped off the peg that connects to the hand a few times.

yea as i was building this guy i say how one of those LED wouldn't be too much work to install.
