Mutt Collage by enc86 Mutt Collage by enc86
The Ford M151 "Mutt" was the succor to the iconic U.S WW2 Willys jeep and was produced from 1959 through 1982. This quarter-ton 4x4 was highly usefully and enjoyed a long time in service(and for good reason!). The mutt severed thro Vietnam and had many upgrades along the way and was ultimately replaced by the humvee. The mutt was used by 15 different NATO countries and is currently used by over 100 countries worldwide. All tho it did suffer from roll over issues, it had great speed, mobility, was light weight and was very durable. Overall, a pretty incredible military vehicle.

This is a 1/35 Tamiya ford mutt and while this kit has been reissued a few times (with different upgrades) the kit I got was the basic vintage kit. I won this kit in a raffle at a local model con and it sells for around $10.us. Painted with enamel paint and weathered with art acrylics and pastels. Stowage/gear was from the bits box. Overall I like this kit alot even tho its one of my smallest builds. I would highly recommend this kit or its variants to any beginner or excerpt alike. For such a cheap price alot of fun can be had with this jeep.
Anyways I am planning up a diorama and base for this thing and will hopefully finish that up in the next few days.

I like the weathering good job! I heard the rollover issue was because it had independent rear suspension that tended collapse and it would jamm the tire between the ground and the chassis.

thank man.
yea i think i read the same things when i was doing the research. i am not sure if they ever fixed that but did add a roll bar at some point.

There's a guy around where I live who has a Mutt which I thought was strange, I heard they were outlawed.

i remember 100% but i dont think they were illegal but rare to come by. because of the roll over issue the US didn't sell many to civilians.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I havent even started your mustang and you made another of my favorite vehicle. This just came up, since you are super pro with kits, if you have original ideas of models your own IP (no starwars, macrose etc) than you can get your kits produced through IndustriaMechanika, they pay you profits if got selected. I can do 3D visualization for your design :)

XD yea jeeps are very cool, i have needed to build one for awhile!

lol thanks but i am very far away from a super pro, i really haven't been building for that long and really only started to get "serious" about my builds for a year now. that would be a like a dream! i visit one of the model makers for that site a bit for inspiration. more custom and original IP is something that i am working toward but i still have a ton to learn and need more experience. gonna have to see where i am at in a few years... right now i have only been building for 4 and 3 of which i was really slacking and rushing on my work.

Oh cool that you liked the idea man, and if I may dude you have insane skills!!! and those details on your stuff are crazy (cant get that stryker off my head lol).

Ok I should stop acting like a child, :D.

Take your time while I work on to establish my online design studio, I have high hopes that one day we will collaborate on super awesome IP model kits for the love of it like many other folks who are doing it right now.

Would suggest you look into Scott Robertson, Daniel Simon, Fheng Zhu and Japanese mecha. Great sources of inspiration :)

thanks again dude, that stryker is by far my best (was a ton of hours and work). i have a few more model in my stash that will be of that level of detail, they just are a ton of work(over 100 hours)and not projects i like to start lightly as they tend not to be relaxing and require my utmost attention.

anyways i love the idea dude, and keep in touch and keep me in mind. ill be working on side IP here and there over the years. i have bins and bins of parts and ideas just waiting for me to build up. would love to collaborate with you.

cool, ill look those up and soak in the awesomeness!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that a Hotchkiss machine gun mounted there?

It works! I really like all the extra details as well, like the pile of tools in the back... one thing I always found intriguing is, when the gunner is shooting stuff up, the casings are raining down on the passenger and the driver, and them things are HOT

Very cool, I love the weathering and the glass.
I think the tires are a bit too dirty in this case and should be blacker, but I might aswell be wrong... :iconthinkplz:

Also, what's that red-white thing next to the weapon on the seat?

:iconenc86:
enc86 Featured By Owner May 16, 2013
thanks man!

i completely agree, i screwed up the tires a few times while making this. they were originally alot blacker but my top coat turned them an off ugly gray, then sprayed over all that with a rattle can of flat black(which turned them glossy) then finally just repainted them and tried to cover the mistakes with pastels. lol anyways i can learn if you dont make mistakes. anyways that few mistakes drove me nuts and i lost patience and just wanted to get them done XD

ohh the little red/white box is a pack of cigarettes.

Very very good, paint is a bit thick and looks oily , if it wouldnt be for that i would say 10 /10 job.
I am sure if you use an airbrush it will look smooth.

yea it did go on a bit thick, it was the end of a pot and i did try to thin it out a bit but failed. plus its tiny so easy for it to glob on sometimes.

For thinning i absolutely recommend reaper flow improver if you dont have one, that stuff is something like magical potion thing.
It goes with everything, and goes so smooth.
I will order an extra 3-4 bottles jsut to make sure i never run out of them.
