As some of you may know, star was: force awakens trailer was released today. You may also know, I am a huge fan of wars and am in the crowd of thinking JJ Abrams is a hack. I have tried to avoid wars news, buts it’s hard for me not to be up to date on it. And while is dislike JJ I have been a bit reserved in on all the hype/judgment sounding it. With all these factors I have been waiting for this trailer to decide my hype factor for it. So with it here and with all my rage for JJ, nostalgia ruining Hollywood, hype machine, here’s my gut reaction.

Loved it! Well I should say pleasantly surprised, but then again my expectation bar was well in check. After the prequels and trek reboot my bar was set really really low. Even though it’s only a 1~ clip, you can still tell it’s going to be better than those. That and money was spent making sure things will not get f-d up. I still think JJ’s is not that "great" but he is a lot better than Lucas (who becomes a one man green screen machine). some shots really gave me the shivers so that's  something working for it.(X-wings over lake OMFG) I was preparing for some crushing blow and in no way a minute long clip going to make me explode and expert excellence  now, but I am pretty impressed with the tone and special effects. Though it kind of has the JJ Abrams "nostalgia "tm thing going on. My only other complaints are everything still seems a bit too shiny to me. I was really hoping for more grit like the originals.. But I guess I just have to wait and see...

Anywho, what did you guys think? Do you care about the new wars or wars in general? Is JJ still a hack or finally living up to his own hype?

It looks alright, but I need to see a really menacing villain, some unique lightsabre fighting that hasn't been done before, a likeable young hero that is an expected change of pace from hayden christensen as mannequin skywalker, and some new and interesting aliens and landscapes. Tattooine has been done to death! In the complete history of the world does only ONE person ever get the opportunity to direct a star trek AND star wars movie, so JJ better be in top form and not screw shit up like he did with into darkness (just a really long episode). I'm all for nostalgia, but so was The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Yup we'll wait and see, I'm sure Han Solo is there. Will Star Killer (apprentice of Vader in star wars Unleashed) be in episode 7? What do you think?

I"d have to say I'm cautiously optimistic that this next one will be good.  JJ is definitely playing on the nostalgia bit - X-Wings, the "Falcon, Tie Fighters - it's like comfort food to Star Wars legions.  I'm more of a Trek fan, but I'm old enough to have seen Star Wars when it appeared in the theater - I waited in line forever and saw it three times before it's initial run was finished.  I felt like crying when watching the most recent attempts to milk us of our hard earned cash - along with the bastardization of the first three films on DVD/Blue Ray.  A one minute or so clip might not be enough to decide if this will be good - but at this point, I'm definitely going to see this one!

i am very optimistic now, tho the entire teaser is deigned to bring back nostalgia(as thats what JJ is really good at) and is kinda worrying that its by a nostalgia check list. good call, it really is "comfort food" for wars fans. got the x-wings,CHECK,falcon,CHECK, sith with custom and dumb saber DOUBLE CHECK!

more of a trek fan myself but did love wars growing up. being a wars or trek fan over the years has been hard. so many cash grabs and milking us. the blu release of wars is such a shame. i still use my vhs boxed sets to enjoy my original trilogy.

your right, but in that one min, i went from very pessimistic to actually being pretty excited. from the looks its gotta be better than 1-3,right? right.......

X-Wings, Falcon, Stormtroopers look amazing. I love the crossguard on the lightsaber (which apparently everyone is loosing their shit about for some reason). Im hyped and I have hope for it as for I grew up on a combination of The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars (prequels and originals) SO yep, gonna see it,

The sith lightsaber handguard that would surely take your fingers is dumb, but what the fuck was that beach ball droid?
The very first thing you see is a guy in clone armor who is obviously not Jango Fett, so I've got to wonder what's up with that, then it went all to hell in a series of jarring flashes.
This will not end well, but there will be a lot of morons screaming how fucking AWESOME it is...kill me now.

that saber seems to be what everyone is freaking out about(and kinda hard they didn't know the reaction it would get) but the droid was just as dumb.

yea was wondering about the trooper, unless its a hint that JJ is doing away with clones or gonna do a trek like continuity wipe...

if its got strong acting and a better story than 1-3 then ill be happy. that and hopefully they replace JJ for the "empire" of this new run.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of fans suddenly cried out in horror, then were suddenly told to SHUT UP IT'S AWESOME!

I commented on a piece of art inspired by the trailer, and some pud questioned my swordsmanship.
This is going to go EXACTLY like what JJ did to my beloved Star Trek, and I'm not going to go there again.
It's enough to make a bear want to hang himself with his own Dr. Who scarf.

lol yea that's pretty much how it went down.

yea that sucks and is bound to happen as the trailer has only re-kindled the JJ fanboys.  if this new wars is good, i think it will have to do less with JJ and more about  the team behind this one.

while not happy with the idea of JJ doing star wars at least the trailer wasn't full of freaking "dramatic" lens flairs or handicam-ish footage, so there's some SLIGHT hope for it.

Dude... I still remember how much I enjoyed watching episodes IV-VI as a kid, and seeing those X-wings flying in formation high-speed over that lake... shivers, man!

I'm of mixed opinions over the Sith lightsabre, however. On one hand, I love it, as I'm a practitioner of the hand-and-a-half sword and therefore have developed great appreciation for the cross guard, so seeing a lightsabre with a cross guard just screamed WANT to me. That always bothered me about the original lightsabre design, actually, because in many of the duels I saw openings where it would have been so simple to slide the sabre down the opponents and disable their wielding hand. A cross guard prevents that in pretty much all of those openings I saw. My gripe with the bastard lightsabre, however, is I'm not sure how they've rigged it to prevent grievously injuring the wielder. As anyone who has handled a cross-guarded sword would know, the hand frequently comes into contact with the guard right at the grip. It appears they've made it so that the grip actually extends into the cross guard before the energy portion of the guard becomes an issue, but it would still be ridiculously easy to injure one's self with this blade design if not careful (as if you should ever not be careful with a lightsabre).

All that said, though, I still love the sith sabre. AND I'M SOOOOOOOO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE! I missed the X-wing. Back when I was a kid, the X-wing made me want to be a pilot. I never did pursue that dream, but it still lives in me.

right on buddy, i got shivers as well!

hummm yea i get your reasoning and it still kinda bothers me(and you bring up some good points too)  why does every sith HAVE to have a custom saber of sorts just seems odd and like a checklist somewhere.

man i went from its totally gonna suck, don't expect anything to have some real hope for this outing. i dont wantta get to hyped as i am not sure i could handle a repeat of episode 1.......

EVERYONE is talking about this teaser, breaking down every single scene in the 88 seconds; J.J. Abrams to Disney "Mission Accomplished." I geeked out seeing the X-wings, Falcon etc. I'm excited. I hope this is better than the prequels. :D

And what a Glorious 88 seconds it was.
One thing i will give JJ credit for, he sure know how to hype.

i know some like/love the prequels, but there bad, in just sooooo many ways. so the bar is set pretty low, but even then i had my doubts. with this 88 sec now i am hoping for ROTJ level if not better. expectations have been raised XD

I find it most hilarious how the web has imploded over the hilted light saber, jeez take a breath. Ha, Ha!

I have IV, V and VI on video cassette in original form(no new CGI/scenes). Can't seem to find them on DVD, I hope someday Disney will release the originals as they were in the theatres. :D

lol its kinda great in its own way. hey if that all we are talking about negative wise, then they got off easy XD

i have the same sets(three copy's vhs) and know exactly your place.i have held off on buying any blu or even dvds of wars because of that reason(tho there is a non-remastered dvd series kicking around, just gotta hunt and have $$$)
sooner or later Disney WILL, they got to and they LOVE selling stuff so.... never really understood why they didn't (other than lucas was a weirdo) and even now it just seems like why not?

really really cant. its art as with all the great movies. there is something magical lost when they touched them up. i am ok with them doing that, i will not judge that want/like that. but its ludicrous they made it the only viewing option. the first movies production was hell from what i understand and some of that shows on screen but adds to the film. that and the fact some of the changes just ruin the bloody point...han always shoots first.

Yeah, I found it very difficult to watch the prequels because of the "newer" look to everything. For stories that were supposed to take place BEFORE the three originals, the machinery/enviroment just looked too advanced, too polished. :(

1-3 are pretty cringe worthy for me. i have the same problems, wayyyy to clean. i think it was because that's what would look better with the CGI at the time. really they should of used models with CGI to enhance everything, but nooooo they just had to CGI and green screen everything. more than a bit of magic was lost right off the bat. too bad the script, acting and plot failed as well.

I have no problem with J.J. Abrams, in fact I'm liking his visual flair, editing and storytelling.
I'm one of those who adored the NuTrek and I suspect I'll like this Star Wars flick - although we'll have to wait a whole year for it.
As per tradition, I'll allow myself to watch the teaser, and then bar myself from any and all internet chatter, speculation, leakage and trailers.
I don't like to be spoiled you see.

This teaser looks brilliant.
